What is fitrana | how to calculate & Pay it?

What is Fitrana ? The Way of Purifying your fasts by paying a small sum amount to needy/poor, per person/dependents before Eid-ul-Fitr prayer is called Zakat-ul-Fitr. Before Eid-ul-fitr salah at the end of Ramadan Mubarak Fitrana is obligatory on every Muslim. It’s the responsibility of Head of household to pay Zakat-ul-Fitr (Fitrana) of their dependent family members such as children, servants or any other dependent relative.

When should Fitrana be paid? Fitrana could be paid during the month of holy Ramadan but it should be paid before Eid-ul-Fitr prayer.

How do I pay Fitrana? The minimum amount of fitrana/Zakat-ul-Fitr is equivalent to 2Kg of wheat flour, rice or staple food stuff per family member and dependents paid by Household/guardian.

If dependents are not under one shelter or living together, it’s the responsibility of household/guardian to pay fitrana from their side.

To whom you can pay fitrana? It’s the needy or poor people , to whom you can pay general zakat are the entitled people for fitrana too.

Zakat-ul-Fitar is also called Fitranna or Sadqat-Ul-Fitr which means “the charity of breaking the Fast”. Muslims pay fitrana before Eid-ul-Fitr Prayer so that the poor people can also celebrate eid in a good way.

What if we pay Fitrana after Eid-ul-Fitr Salah? Can I give Fitrana after Eid?

If someone pay Fitrana after Eid-ul-fitr prayer, then it will be considered as Sadqah but not Fitrana.

Abdullah bin Umer said: Holy Prophet(PBUH) ordered Muslims to pay Fitrana before going to the Eid-ul-Fitr prayer. (Sahi Bukhari)

Fitrna or Hadya is mandatory on every Muslim to pay during the month of Ramadan or must be given before Eid-ul-Fitr prayer. Fitrana is the charity given by Muslims to the needy or deserving people to help them to celebrate Eid festival and also enjoy it’s blessings. Must pay fitrana and let other people of the society to celebrate their eid and fulfill their wishes.
